Village Committees

Mayor Denny Hahn provided the Council with the committee list for 2012.

New Business

Insurance rates were discussed as the health insurance for the village employees is up for renewal as of March 1st, 2012.  Aultcare sent a sheet with several different plans and the rates for those plans.  The current plan will go up 17.32%. BPA President Don Hughes discussed that maybe by discontinuing the uniforms under Cintas and using that savings toward the health insurance it might keep the cost to the village close to the same. It will be discussed at the BPA meeting on January 23rd and brought back to the Council on February 6th.

Council Member Jeremy Scheetz inquired about his trash invoice.  He stated that he thought that the residents were to be billed quarterly.  He has received a bill in November and now again in January due by the end of January. Council wondered if it was related to the increase to pay for the closing of the landfill and when that was mandated to start by the County Commissioners.  Jeremy will call and find out what J&J Refuse has to say.

Council President Rick Allison checked on contracting with the state through ODOT for salt.  There is an online application to participate.  It is through state purchasing which the Village belongs to.  The Village would have to purchase at least 80% of what it ordered up to 120% if you would need more then that you ordered.  They would deliver at least 22 tons at a time.

Mayor

Mayor Denny Hahn reported that someone hit the bell on the corner of Purdy and Main Streets and then continued down Main Street taking out mailboxes and tearing up the yards.  The Sheriff's office was contacted and is handling the claims. The Mayor went on to discuss that maybe the Village needs to install a few more of the bells.  Street Commissioner Brian Rippeth reported that a bell with shipping runs around $1,900.00.  Brian would be able to install them.  The Mayor wondered if the Village needs to look at installing one on the corner of Purdy Street and State Route 60 and maybe at the other end of town as the trucks from the industrial park and other businesses are where the problem starts.

The Mayor also reported that he was contacted by the Killbuck Township Trustees.  They are leasing a piece of property on state route 60 near the far entrance to the industrial park.  They keep their road materials there.  They are wondering if the Village would be interested in selling a piece of land near where the Village salt bin is located.  If the Village would do that, they would move the electric pole on the corner of the alley and widen and maintain the alley that it would be on. No equipment would be stored there. The Mayor will invite them to a meeting to discuss the options.

                                                     Street Commissioner

Street Commissioner Brian Rippeth reported that he had to order new snow plow lights costing around $450.00.
